Reportedly, Zomato's former COO, Surobhi Das, has founded an aerospace startup named LAT Aerospace and has enlisted the aid of Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal as a non-executive cofounder and an investor. Reportedly, in this capacity, Goyal has invested $20 million into the startup, or roughly INR 174 crore, per Economic Times, citing sources.
Inc42 has reached out to Das and Goyal for comments on the development. Their responses will be included in the story once received. One insider claimed, "Both Das and Goyal are co-founders of the startup, but Goyal would be mostly involved in investing and mentoring the startup in a non-executive role."
At present, the startup is under stealth mode and plans to build low-cost short takeoff and landing (STOL) aircraft focused on regional air connectivity. The aircraft incursion establishes very nature of the range extendint upto 1500 km with about 24 seats.
It is reported that LAT Aerospace is working on seed funding of $50 Mn (nearly INR 436 Cr). The aircraft developed by LAT Aerospace can take off and land in compact air-stops that are no larger than a parking lot, virtually eliminating the need for extensive airport infrastructure. The startup is also looking for engineers to join it and speed up operations.
This came months after the reports last October that Goyal had incubated Continuea personal venture on longevity through health tracking and mental wellness. However, Goyal, as of that time, clarified that Continue was his personal health-and-wellness team that tracks and researches how to keep him at peak performance.
