Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia inaugurated India's pioneering green hydrogen project in Hisar, Haryana, initiated by Jindal Stainless Ltd. This innovative project, established in collaboration with Hygenco, aims to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 2,700 metric tonnes annually and mitigate 54,000 tons of CO2 emissions over the next 20 years.
Commending JSL and Hygenco for their groundbreaking initiative, Minister Scindia praised the project's dual approach, incorporating rooftop and floating green hydrogen facilities. He emphasized the importance of innovation in reducing environmental impact and commended Jindal Stainless for its leadership in this area.
Highlighting the significance of green hydrogen in stainless steel manufacturing, Jindal Stainless Managing Director Abhyuday Jindal underscored the role of hydrogen generation in conventional processes in curbing CO2 emissions. He emphasized the crucial role of decarbonization in manufacturing and lauded the project's contribution to this endeavor.
The green hydrogen plant, comprising both renewable and gas plants, was developed in collaboration with Hygenco Ltd under a long-term build-own-operate-transfer (BOOT) model. The green hydrogen produced will be utilized by JSL in its stainless steel manufacturing processes at the Hisar unit, furthering the company's commitment to sustainable practices and environmental stewardship.
