We established a production facility in the North-east since purchasing power in the region is lower than in other parts of India, and our product is more suited to budget-friendly customers. Jumbo Roofings & Tiles has a cutting-edge state of the art manufacturing facility in Guwahati where we produce standardized quality products from high-quality raw materials leveraging the power of automation and the expertise of people who manage and operate our plant.

I pursued my bachelor's degree in economics and an MBA in International Business from the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade in New Delhi. Prior to the inception of JUMBO, I worked in Delhi for a couple of years in MNCs to gain some experience and insight in to how these big companies operate. Thereafter, I returned to Guwahati and worked in
the cement and roofing industries. I bring in a varied experience in the hardware products sector; I've been in this field for 20 years, and we operate throughout North-east and Eastern India from our base in Guwahati. I have extensive geographical knowledge and experience, which offers me a competitive advantage in this domain.
What Are The Various Roles & Responsibilities That You Currently Shoulder At Jumbo Roofings & Tiles?
I've been wearing multiple hats and am accountable for practically everything in my company. However, I'm centered more on sales & marketing, finance, and new product development, all of which are part of our company's varied research and development operations.
We attempt to set ourselves apart from our competition because, in the Hardware market, products are mostly homogeneous, making it difficult to distinguish one company's product from another. Hence, we strive to create and add features to the products that are distinct from the rest. Our endeavour is to offer the discerning customer with value added products.
What Are Some Of The Most Challenging Aspects Of The Roofing Tiles Industry? How Do You Overcome Them?
One of the most pressing issues in the North-east is dearth of skilled manpower. Human resource is of the most significant aspects of starting a firm, which was a huge challenge in itself. We addressed this by engaging young talent in our industry and then continued to train and develop them. It was a herculean task to begin with but it's now working in our favor since the people we've trained have become very proficient and committed. Now we have a very strong team who are competent and loyal to the company.
Further, the other challenge we confronted was in terms of sourcing of raw materials. We require a variety of products and raw materials for our research and development, which are not readily available here. Sourcing them has been a significant problem for us, which we have handled by partnering with a variety of suppliers. Having said that, we have failed in many ways but succeeded in a few which itself has now created a niche for us and defines our identity as Jumbo Roofings & Tiles.
Today, we are known in North-east and Eastern markets owing to these products. We have successfully introduced designer ceiling boards and coloured cement sheets for the first time in North-east India. We are now poised to offer Fibre cement boards from our new industrial unit, JRT Industries LLP, which is the pioneer of fibre cement boards in entire Eastern and Central India.

To begin with, budding business leaders should have a passion for entrepreneurship, this is sheer hard work. While there is no immediate monetary reward, the only option is for the reward to be in the form of self-satisfaction.
Though the results might take a long time, if you want to be an entrepreneur, you must have absolute confidence in yourself and be prepared to fight in the early days.
