| |OCTOBER 202219and even radioactive substances. Equipments for waste water management include disinfection equipment, evaporators and thermal distillation equipment, filtration equipment and membrane equipment. The current market for this industry has been projected to grow at a CAGR of 4.9 percent. The estimated market value is likely to reach $34 billion for the year 2022 which was calculated to be $28.06 billion in 2018. According to the industry experts, it is the Asia Pacific region that will experience the most growthin the waste water management and treatment sector during the years of 2018-2023. The increasing amount of waste and therefore recyclable water coming out of industries is primarily driving the growth of this sector. Rapid urbanisation and development also means the disposal of a lot of waste matter and water is of them. It is in fact the most prevalent bi-product that comes of industries. When it comes to the European market, there are a lot of factors that are driving the growth of the waste water management industry. According to the report that was presented by the European Environment Agency, almost 70 percent of the waste water that is emitted in the northern European region receives tertiary water treatment that is spread all across the region. Furthermore, in the central European countries 75 percent of the waste water that come from the urbanised areas receives tertiary water treatment. The only obligation for the waste water treatment market is the high operational and installation cost for the equipment. The overall equipment as well as installation costs is increased owing to the apparatus for waste water treatment being fitted with a programmable logic controller (PLC) which is a very sophisticated and costly device. The PLC also leads to higher energy consumption by the equipment. Because of the huge amount of sludge generated by the industries and the usage of sophisticated equipment leads to a higher operational cost for waste water treatment plants. E.g., 65.3 million liters of water is left untreated in Sri Lanka everyday which can be considered a major drawback for the country. So, maintaining the operational cost of the waste water treatment plants and machineries stands as one of the major challenges for the growth of this sector. The increasing amount of waste and therefore recyclable water coming out of industries is primarily driving the growth of this sector
