MAY 20244Transforming Waste, Restoring WaterThe energy management from waste and waste water treatment markets in India are growing at a fast pace due to growing awareness about the environment, governmental policies and regulations and technological improvements. These sectors are emerging as key areas of the sustainable development framework for India. The energy management from waste sector in India has been growing at a faster pace because of the twin challenges of waste disposal and energy crunch. The population of the country is increasing and so is the industrialization which leads to large amounts of waste production which is a problem and at the same time a business opportunity. The Government of India through the Swachh Bharat Mission and the National Policy on Biofuels has encouraged investment in WTE projects. Technologies such as anaerobic digestion, incineration, and gasification are being used more frequently to transform municipal solid waste, agricultural waste, and industrial waste into renewable energy. PPPs and FDI are considered as significant in enhancing the capacity of WTE projects. Likewise, the waste water treatment market in India is growing at fast pace due to the rising water crisis and strict norms of environmental conservation. The need for clean water in industrial, agricultural, and domestic uses is increasing, and hence the need for better treatment processes. The Namami Gange Programme of the Government of India to clean the Ganges River has increased the awareness of waste water treatment. New technologies like membrane bioreactors (MBR), advanced oxidation processes (AOP), and zero liquid discharge (ZLD) systems are emerging. These technologies are effective and environmentally friendly methods of treating and reusing waste water. In this issue, we acquaint you with the top companies in these fields.
