NOVEMBER 20244Engineered Textiles for Tomorrow The growth of the India technical textiles market is being largely driven by rising domestic demand, positive government policies and the availability of export opportunities. Technical textiles are being used in sectors like agriculture, automotive, healthcare, infrastructure, and defense. India is expected to witness this market grow at a CAGR close to 10 percent over the next five years, meaning a large increase in production and consumption throughout the country. There are many reasons for this growth trajectory. The sector is a priority for the Indian government, and specific efforts have been put in place. These programs are to strengthen the local manufacturing capabilities, promote R&D and minimize reliance on imports in segments such as medical textiles and geo textiles. There is a rising domestic demand in sectors like healthcare, as the medical textiles have experienced a boom because of the increased focus on the healthcare infrastructure. The technical textiles sector also is producing new applications in the infrastructure sector for example in road and railway construction through reinforced fabrics for durability. India's booming automobile industry and increasing demand for safer, high quality automobiles are driving this as well, in the area of automotive textiles. India's place as a potential player in the technical textiles market is a combination of the competitive manufacturing cost and the growing expertise. The industry has a strong potential for the progress if it has a supportive ecosystem, for instance skilled labor and government initiatives. The trend is similar to India's ambition to be a major global hub in technical textiles manufacturing and export, capable of serving local and international demand in this unique industry.
