After the pandemic, the demand of high quality medical disposables like syringe, gloves, masks, catheters, surgical drapes has increased. India's status as a global manufacturing centre for affordable healthcare products has also fuelled the sector's further growth. This growth is due to many factors. It is no surprise that demand for medical disposables has increased in public and private sectors due to government focus on public health initiatives such as Ayushman Bharat and increased budget allocation for healthcare. Another critical driver has been the rapid expansion of hospital networks, diagnostic centres and primary care facilities in both urban and rural areas.India is a favorable exporter to global markets, due to its abundant raw material supply (particularly polymers) and cost competitive manufacturing. Stringent international safety and quality standards of medical disposables manufacturers have contributed to the growth of Indian medical disposables export demand. The industry recorded double digit growth in exports in FY 2023 to markets in the US, Europe and the Middle East. Investment in automation and advanced manufacturing technologies is occurring among both domestic players and multinational corporations in order to scale production and improve efficiency. Easier access to medical disposables for smaller healthcare facilities and consumers is made possible by the rise of e-commerce platforms.
