JUNE 20238Tata Steel has partnered with Germany's SMS group to explore development of low carbon steel making process. As part of the MoU, both companies shall undertake further technical discussions and initiate actions for conducting Joint Industrial Demonstration of the EASyMelt technology developed by SMS group, Tata Steel said in a statement."The demonstration will be executed at E Blast Furnace in Tata Steel's Jamshedpur plant with an objective to reduce CO2 emission by more than 50 per cent from blast furnace's baseline operation," it said. The EASyMelt (electric-assisted syngas smelter) technology is an iron-making solution that can be implemented in existing integrated steel plants to accelerate decarbonisation."We actively look for solutions to facilitate the transition to green steel production, and thus contribute to a sustainable future," said T V Narendran, CEO & MD, Tata Steel. Large producers like Tata Steel have a major duty to lead the nation's decarbonization effort because India is the second-largest producer of steel in the world. State-owned hydropower significant SJVN Ltd declared it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Maharashtra State Power Generation business (MAHAGENCO) for the development of 5,000 MW clean energy projects in the state.The MoU was signed in the presence of Deputy CM & Power Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis and Principal Secretary Energy, Govt. of Maharashtra, Abha Shukla. The pact was signed by Geeta Kapur, Director (Personnel), SJVN and P Anablagan, CMD, MAHAGENCO.The MoU was approved to examine the feasibility of setting up different clean energy projects in Maharashtra, which include Hydro, Pumped Storage, Wind, Solar, Hybrid and Renewable Hydrogen Projects.Both businesses will jointly participate in tenders floated by the state government for the renovation and modernization of small hydropower stations which are operated and maintained by MAHAGENCO.
