SEPTEMBER 20238BHEL BAGS ORDER FROM NHPC FOR THE DIBANG MULTIPURPOSE PROJECTS & THE HYDRO PROJECTR K SINGH: INDIA TO BECOME GREEN FUEL DESTINATION FOR SHIPPING SECTORThe 2,880 MW Dibang multipurpose project in Arunachal Pradesh has received an order from NHPC, according to the state-owned Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL). According to a statement from BHEL, the project's electro-mechanical (E&M) work order was won after a competitive international bid process."BHEL's scope under the contract envisages design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection and commissioning of the electro-mechanical package including Turbines, Generators, Digital Governing Systems, Static Excitation Systems, Transformers, Bus Reactors, Gas Insulated Switchgear, Outdoor Pot Yard & Switchyard Equipment and Electrical & Mechanical BoPs,".Design, engineering, production, supply, construction, and commissioning of the E&M package are all included in BHEL's scope of work under the contract. Major project components will be produced at BHEL plants in Bhopal, Bengaluru, Jhansi, and Rudrapur, while the company's power sector - eastern region division, based in Kolkata, will handle on-site execution activities. The company is currently completing orders for the 105 MW Loktak HEP (Manipur) for M/s NHPC and renovation and modernization (R&M) of the 850 MW Ratle HEP (J&K) for restricted scope of E&M works, among other orders. Additionally, BHEL is managing six hydro projects totaling more than 650 MW nationwide. Additionally, BHEL has expanded its product line to include big Francis type Pump-Motor Sets for Lift Irrigation Schemes. These Sets are currently being used in Kaleswaram, Telangana, which is home to the largest lift irrigation project in the world. The union government wants to turn India into a major source of environmentally friendly hydrogen, ammonia, and methanol for the shipping industry. According to R K Singh, the union minister for electricity, new, and renewable energy, India would offer these environmentally friendly fuels at the lowest prices."Shipping will become green within the next ten years, therefore we must be ready. We need to become the green ships' preferred place to refuel. That is our goal. Additionally, to give them green hydrogen, ammonia, and methanol at the most affordable prices," Singh said during a seminar on green hydrogen held by NTPC.Singh, the Centre would launch pilot projects for the storage of green ammonia and green hydrogen for continuous renewable energy. It will cost between Rs. 4.25 and Rs. 5.50 if we have continuous renewable energy using green hydrogen or ammonia storage. Companies that can use green hydrogen or ammonia have already produced turbines; the emphasis now is on duplicating these pilot projects on a bigger scale, according to the minister. The creation of a Green Hydrogen Innovation Centre (GHIC) to encourage the production, use, and trade of green hydrogen was announced by the International Solar Alliance (ISA). As the international organisation partner of India's G20 Presidency, ISA will create a multifaceted web portal that will serve as "a one-stop platform with access to all relevant knowledge on green hydrogen, country insights, developments in the hydrogen space, global initiatives and missions, skill development, and community engagement," according to a statement released to the public.
