4JUNE 2024Fueling India's Green Future The use of biogas plant in the country is rapidly on the rise due to the growing concern towards green power and efficient waste disposal in the country. The sources of market growth are the government and new technologies, as well as the increased focus on the environmental problems. The Indian government has played a key role in this growth, introducing policies and subsidies for biogas production. Some of the programmes include the National Biogas and Manure Management Programme (NBMMP) which seeks to offer clean cooking fuel and animal manure through biogas plants. Such measures have considerably enhanced the establishment and functioning of biogas plants in the rural and urban regions. Besides, the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, which includes the provision of LPG connections through subsidies, has an indirect positive impact on biogas since it fosters a competitive market for the consumption of other types of fuels. Technological advancement is also playing a great role in the growth of the market. Advanced plants are more efficient and flexible; they can process almost all sorts of organic waste to produce biogas. This versatility is particularly beneficial in India because agricultural waste, animal manure and municipal solid waste are easily available. Improvement in the various digestion processes and betterment of the biogas purification systems have also contributed to the general efficiency and the possibilities of such plants hence attracting investors and farmers. Also, the level of awareness in the Indian population regarding the environment is increasing. In the current issue, we introduce you to the top companies in this sector.
