Aerospace CNC machining is the creation of parts used in assembling and maintaining aircraft and space shuttles. CNC-machined components, kits, and assemblies are very much necessary for aircrafts in the aerospace industry. Whether one needs hinges, bushings, manifolds, clamps, or other custom manufactured parts, the components have to be of the most superior quality.
Aerospace equipments, and parts need the best components made with the highest quality metals in order to function properly. Titanium and Kovar are most often used for aerospace components, but others include stainless steel, inconel, invar, super invar, aluminum, brass, bronze, ceramic, copper, and other certain types of plastic.
The Journey So Far It All Started With One Component
An inadvertent meeting 15 years ago, with the then director of SAC (Space Application Centre), Ahmedabad who was on the lookout for quality vendors changed a lot of things for MAGMA, he gave me a component to manufacture. I had no machine, no other means to develop or create a component except the where-with-all to do something substantial, and somehow I developed the said component for them, the accuracy and quality of which impressed him so much that he embedded me in their system on-the-spot for the next three years, Today, 15 years and 15 machines later, I have still not forgotten that first component given to me by SAC.

Magma - A Name That Invokes Trust
"Weight is one of the most important factors that affects fuel consumption in any aerospace component. One of our clients had come across a major challenge but knowing the technical and machining prowess of MAGMA, they wanted only MAGMA to take up this challenge of machining a 300 kg aluminium box shaped structure into an 11.5 kg component (more than 95% material scooped) by maintaining the hole centre distance within 50 microns. The client did not outsource this job to any other manufacturer though there were others and they were so delighted with the results that the client immediately visited our premises and personally congratulated TEAM MAGMA for the results achieved with such precision," says Yogesh.
Another client approached MAGMA for this unique job for which they were quite sure, multiple trials would be necessary, MAGMA machined this Diplexer assembly having a length of 800 mm with a cross section of 28.5 x 12.62 mm and succeeded in giving the desired component in the first trial itself. Our valued customer examined in disbelief by different RF – testing methods but were taken aback in their first round of testing. In addition to this, MAGMA met their expectations for all the stages of inspection.

Equally challenging, are Ku Band feed systems, C – Band feed systems, S – Band feed systems, X – band feed systems which are very popular sub-assemblies for Satcom antenna products. H – Plane Bends, E – Plane Bends and 90 degrees Meter Bends are very useful micro –waveguide components for circular to square transitions, cylindrical waveguide with square transitions, Transformers, Adaptors, Septum Polarisers with different frequency ranges are all parts of these assemblies.
After facing rejection by major machining companies in Ahmadabad, one of Magma’s clients approached them because he had heard about MAGMA’s accomplishment in the 20 micron range, but this was a 10 micron job to be done along with maintaining complex GD&T parameters of 15 microns with a surface finish of 1.6 micron (or better). Radius of central axis, flatness of flanges, parallelism of internal surfaces and perpendicular of flange reference to cavity were crucial parameters that needed to be maintained within the permissible limit and that client is still associated with Magma for three successful years.

So far we have been focussing on the domestic market however the need of the hour for MAGMA is a technology related JV with an international company and an international wing focussing only on International markets are amongst some of the strategical ideas to be incorporated at MAGMA.
Last Impressions
I think that the Indian market should really work towards coming out of the L1 mindset and emphasize on providing quality deliverables. Everybody is aware that quality comes at a price, the moment we start working in that direction I see the Indian market evolving dramatically, until then it’s the same story all over again.
