Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has wrapped up his trip to Brazil and is on his way back to India. Chouhan headed the Indian delegation at the 15th BRICS Agriculture Ministers' Meeting in Brasilia, where officials and ministers from BRICS nations and partner countries convened to talk about sustainable and inclusive agricultural practices.
During the visit, the Minister highlighted the importance of increasing soya production and exports in India. He emphasized the significance of embracing cutting-edge global technologies to enable Indian farmers and foster innovation in agriculture. To examine Brazil’s knowledge, the Union Minister toured soyabean production facilities, tomato farms, and various agricultural technology institutions. He mentioned that India and Brazil are collaborating on soybean processing and technology exchange, which may assist India in decreasing its reliance on imports and boosting local production.
In Sao Paulo, Chouhan engaged with 27 representatives from Brazil’s agribusiness sector, examining prospects for partnerships in biofuels, food processing, supply chain integration, and sustainable agriculture. He showed a keen interest in studying Brazil's effective agricultural methods and implementing them in India to aid farmers.
Reiterating his dedication to safeguarding the environment, Chouhan also took part in a tree planting campaign at the Indian Embassy in Brasilia as part of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative. He engaged with the Indian community in Brazil and commended their role in enhancing India-Brazil ties.
Looking back on the visit, Chouhan mentioned that the insights and experiences acquired in Brazil will aid India’s progress toward achieving developed nation status by 2047. He conveyed certainty that this collaboration will enable Indian farmers and significantly impact global food security.
