Automaker Mahindra launched its advanced manufacturing and battery assembly facility at its Chakan plant, aimed at producing the next-generation Electric Origin SUVs. The facility, strategically positioned in Mahindra’s Chakan manufacturing hub, utilizes solely renewable energy and is a water-positive location, focused on sustainability and innovation.
In its Rs 16,000 crore investment strategy for FY22-FY27, Mahindra has dedicated Rs 4,500 crore to this new plant. The funding encompasses powertrain innovation, cutting-edge manufacturing techniques, and software integration, ensuring the creation of high-quality electric vehicles (EVs) and components.
The electric vehicle production plant covers 88,000 square meters and includes a completely automated Press Shop, an AI-powered Body Shop, and state-of-the-art robotic Paint Shops to guarantee efficiency and quality.
More than 500 robots, monitored via IoT-enabled systems, oversee operations with real-time insights and comprehensive traceability. Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) and Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) enhance material handling, showcasing Mahindra's commitment to safety and dependability.
The location also features a world-class battery assembly line, built to provide high-quality and long-lasting batteries. The compact series utilizes patented production methods, including innovative pallet designs and concealed cell terminal welding for safety and accuracy.
Batteries at the facility experience extensive testing that replicates real-world conditions, featuring IP67-rated ingress protection and continuous anomaly monitoring. This guarantees strong performance and reassurance for electric vehicle users.
